Campaign Manager Accused of Fraud
A respected campaign manager shocked her entire team when FBI agents came to take her away last week.
The campaign manager for a politician in Orange County, California had been under surveillance by the FBI and other agencies for allegedly committing white collar crimes. The agency now believes that she used the politician's funds for re-election to pay off her own bills, including credit card bills and her mother's assisted living facility bills.
In total, she stole $677,000 in campaign funds from the politician who appeared to have had no idea that theft had even occurred.
While funds stolen from the politician are the basis for the criminal complaint filed against the campaign manager, police now believe that some of her other clients could have been targeted as well. These include several higher-ups, including U.S. representatives and members of the state legislature. At this time, the suspect has only been charged with mail fraud, but additional charges are expected to be added later on this month.
