Former Raider Facing Charges for Murder

Anthony Wayne Smith, a former Raiders football defensive end, has been charged with a murder that occurred over two years ago.

According to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office Smith, 43, along with DeWann Wesley White, 32, and Charles Eric Honest, 41, murdered Maurilio Ponce on Oct. 7, 2008. Each man has been charged with one count of murder.

The district attorney's office issued a statement that Smith and White will be arraigned on Friday, while Honest will be back in court on March 17 for his arraignment. At this time prosecutors want to give Smith and Honest bails of $1 million each. Honest reportedly already has a previous manslaughter conviction in Torrance from 1996. They hope to get a $1.05 bail for White.

Court documents reveal that Ponce was beaten and then shot several times before his body was disposed of near the Antelope valley poppy fields.
