Swerving Driver Arrested for DUI
A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy was forced to fire upon a drunk driver who was swerving across the 10 Freeway last weekend.
According to police reports, the suspect was in pursuit by the officer when he forced the off-duty deputy to veer into a side rail. At that point, the deputy shot at the suspect, hitting him in the forearm. The man kept driving but finally exited at Mateo Street, where the officer and backup officers were able to take him into custody. Once the man was treated at the USC Medical Center, he was brought to a local jail.
Although the incident is still under investigation, the suspect has been charged with committing assault with a deadly weapon (his vehicle). However, they are still unsure whether the DUI suspect was actually aiming for the deputy or whether the officer simply felt threatened by the suspect's erratic driving.
