California Manhunt Ends in Lancaster
A manhunt in California came to an end this week in Lancaster.
Police reports show that the suspect, 18-year-old Jaquain Smith, shot at and killed Josefat Canchola and his nephew, Joshua Montes, 2. Although police have yet to question Smith, they believe that the shooting, which happened last month in the 1200 block of E. 55th Street, was intended to be a gang hit. However, the intended victims lived next door to the Montes.
When federal marshals got a tip that Smith was staying with family in Lancaster, they descended upon the family home and waited for him to exit. When he did, Smith attempted to flee, but was tackled to the ground and taken into custody. Smith now faces two counts of first-degree felony murder.
