Woman Sentenced After Stealing Confidential Information from Disney
After shifting blame to her boyfriend a former secretary who stole confidential information from Disney will avoid jail altogether.
Instead of time behind bars Bonnie Hoxie was given three years probation and 300 hours of community service by U.S. Judge Alvin Hellerstein. After pleading guilty to wire fraud and conspiracy, Hoxie told the court that "I trusted someone that not only was I romantically involved with, but was a close confidant of over eight years. It is no excuse. However, I think I was blindsided by love, and not making the correct choices."
Her former boyfriend, Yonni Sebbag, also plead guilty to wire fraud and conspiracy. However, he was given two years in prison and is expected to be deported back to his home country of Morocco after his release.
According to Robert Baum, a public defender in the case, Sebbag told Hoxie that he would use the corporate secrets to invest in the stock market. He instead attempted to sell the data to investment firms and hedge funds under an alias. Sebbag was eventually caught when the FBI set up a fake meeting where he was given an envelope filled with $15,000 cash. Once he accepted the envelope agents were able to arrest him immediately.
