Last week Wednesday, well-known 70s teen idol Lief Garrett was ordered to stand trial. At this time, Garrett is facing one felony count of possession of heroin.
Garrett was released on bond after Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Alex Ricciardulli scheduled the singer's arraignment for July 7th. Garret, who is 48, waived his right to a preliminary hearing. During preliminary hearings, evidence is presented to determine if district attorneys have sufficient evidence to proceed with a trial. According to Garrett's defense attorney, Andrew Flier, his client will fight the charge.
On February 1st, Lief was arrested at a subway station at Pershing Square. Prior to his arrest, he had given permission for sheriff's deputies to search him. In January 2006, Lief was arrested at the same location for possession of heroin. He was sentenced to 90 days of jail time and three years of probation in May 2006.
