Car Thefts Down in Los Angeles County
New statistics show that vehicle thefts dropped by 17.3 percent in Los Angeles County.
According to the statistics, 49,900 cars, trucks, SUVs and motorcycles were stolen throughout the county in 2009. In 2008, 59,091 vehicles were stolen said the California Highway Patrol.
Neighboring county, Orange County, also experienced a decrease in motor vehicle thefts. Statistics show that vehicle thefts were down by 15.6 percent in 2009 when compared to 2008.
California Highway Patrol Commissioner said that, "Vehicle theft prevention efforts by law enforcement agencies and the public are paying off." He also said that since 2005, California has had a 35% decrease in the number of stolen vehicles reported throughout the state.
Annually, the state suffers an economic loss of $1 billion from stolen vehicles alone. The most significant amount of vehicle thefts occurred in Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego.
