Agents Make Multiple Sex Crime Arrests at L.A. County Fair
Parole agents and local law enforcement working with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation department made four arrest this year at the Los Angeles County Fair. They had been tracking 17 registered and known sex offenders in the area by global positioning system devices, six of which were arrested at the Orange County Fair.
These numbers, however, are down from last year, when law enforcement arrested 14 sex offenders at the Los Angeles County Fair, and 35 statewide. Robert Ambroselli, head of Parole Operations, believes that "the decline in arrests in 2010 may indicate sex offenders are getting the message to stay away from public events with children."
While they were there, officers were monitoring the event for gang members with GPS devices as well, but none were apprehended this year. Overall, the state of California monitors 6, 579 sex offenders and 932 high-risk gang offenders.
